Re:collection is a project that is seeking to create resources that support and encourage reminiscence. We are hoping to build on the handling collections held at the Culture Centre in Conwy with resources that relate to the more recent times of the 60’s, 70’s and 80’s.
Handling objects can evoke a particularly rich, multi-sensory experience of sight, touch, smell and sound. Recalling memories can positive for everyone and for people living with Dementia it can improve mental health and wellbeing.
With this project we will be inviting people to share with use what brings back memories of these eras, whether it’s particular household object, toy or theme tune. Whatever it is we would like to hear about it.
We linked in Bayside Radio who put together these shows themed to the eras. Have a listen and if there are any memories you’d like to share do please get in touch.
We are piloting some resource activity packs in care homes at the moment, we hope to make these packs available more widely in the community.
